Thrifty Treasures Monday!

I wasn't planning on hitting any sales this weekend, but the boys talked me into it.
I actually picked this up two weekends ago and forgot to post about it.  It's going to turn Heirloom White pretty darn soon.  I'm all for olive green but this is a no go.
$2.00
A little topiary for my front flower bed
.50 cents
Large metal and wire antique bucket
$3.00
I love it.  I just have to decide where to put it.
Funny story when we made out last stop and I was down to $3.00 cash and that was it.  I saw a birdhouse I wanted and the boys saw an army tank and dune buggy.  Guess who is the coolest mom ever and made the sacrifice?

They wanted $5.00 for just the tank.

I asked "Will you take $3.00?"

The lady says to the man loud enough for me to HEAR...

"OH....just give it to her, they OBVIOUSLY don't have any money!
Here, honey (to the boys) take the dune buggy too."
Um...so I guess we *did* just roll out of bed and off we went, but I left a tad shocked, embarrassed and then thoughtful of a new shopping tactic...looking poor to get a deal!

Thrifty Treasures Monday!

I swear that my boys are getting better at yard sales than I am!  Greg begged me to take him Saturday morning and to be honest, I wasn't really in the mood.  GASP!!!

But 10 minutes later there were the three of us ready to go.

The boys found two sets of boxing gloves at the first sale.
$10.00 each set. (!!!)
The lady saw my little boys fists full of change and let them have them for $1.00 per set.  She made their day!
I got the following for LuLu:
Everything was $1 a piece.  The Scout shirt is large but it might come in handy when Graham is 10?  Or I might just keep it in case a boy in my Pack needs one. But they aren't cheap ($23 new!) and for $1 I thought I would chance it!
This wasn't even for sale!  It was on the driveway with other pots, but when I asked the lady how much her and her husband said they'd never seen it before but would sell it to me for 25 cents.

I'm going to make a salt bucket for my porch this winter with it. (Yes, Kari, totally copying you!)

Best part of the morning was Greg yelling out in the car after finding a $50 Death Star Transformer for $2...
"We are the luckiest garage salers EVER!"

Thrifty Treasures Monday!

I had a few errands to run with Greg on Friday and of course we were lured in by the yard sale signs.
He is seriously hooked.
He yelled out that he saw the sign and "we need to hurry mom!"
Um...okay?
I pulled up and he was out in a flash...and no wonder.  His little 5 year old eyes spotted these RIGHT away.
The lady wanted $30, then okay maybe $25 and then when she saw I was being iffy, she said the lowest she could go was $20 per ship.  Each ship came with a large blue box full of ALL the accessories.
So Greg promised to hand over his piggy bank to me when we got home and I bought the ship for him.
He.was.thrilled.

My boys LOVE playing pirates.  Graham has a large pirate ship I bought from my friend Kj over a year ago and it gets played with almost daily.  Greg went and got that ship from upstairs and then I instantly knew I was in deep trouble....there would be ship envy.
"Look mom, my new ship is WAY bigger than Graham's!!"

Crap.

I am such a pushover good mom that I busted my butt back over to that sale, stole the second ship out of some crying kids hands up off the ground and that my friends is how I paid $40 for two large pirate ships, two huge boxes of pirates and all their booty as well as the treasure chest case that unfold to become pirate island.
I was lucky it was still there!
I looked the ships up online and found that each ship new costs $119.00  There is NO WAY I would ever pay $240.00 for these!!  But I'm glad that lady did and that her kids didn't like playing pirates like she had hoped!!

All I managed to get otherwise were a few odds and ends for LuLu for fall including this winter coat for $3.00 Not bad.
I really need a weekend to go WITHOUT the boys.
They are fun but I feel like we are good on toys for awhile and they don't understand the concept yet that we don't buy something at every stop.  They are learning, but their little hearts have trouble leaving toys behind!

We have one more week of tennis lessons and then I am going to be a SERIOUS yard sale lady looking for some things for my house and porch!

Thrifty Treasures Monday!

I didn't have much time for going to yard sales this weekend. I was in Orem on Friday and decided to stop by the Savers there to see if I could find anything.

WHAT A DUMP HOLE. GROSS.
And the prices - holy mackerel, talk about expensive junk.  Everything seemed to be 3x the amount of what it should have been.
I noticed a sign on the door that all blue tags were 50% off so I stuck to that.

I only ended up with these two things:
Gap Long and Lean trouser jeans
$2.00 (after discount)
Retails for $49.99

Anne Klein Trouser Jeans
$2.00 (after discount)
Retails for $64.99
I know they are really similar in the photos, here at home the AK ones are a lot darker blue.
Sad thing is neither fit that fabulous.  Nothing a few pounds can't fix.  But you know I wasn't about to go into the dressing rooms there!!

I think I need a REALLY good yard sale weekend.  But with two more weeks of tennis lessons, I'm not sure how this will happen!

Thrifty Treasures Monday

The boys had their tennis lessons canceled due to rain so we had a few other things to do Saturday morning.  I had wanted to hit some great sales, but it seemed everything had fizzled with the rain and our very, very late start.  It was slim pickings for sales and treasures for sure.
So I'll show you my sad find first:
I couldn't leave the cute wooden pumpkin behind for just a $1.00, right?
He'll look cute hanging somewhere around here this fall.

The boys were the lucky ones though...no picture of them but they scored this Transformers Construction Devastator.
I realize that unless you have boys you have zero clue of the coolness of this find.  The boys paid $5.00 for this toy.
It retails new on Amazon for $139.00!!!
It's missing one small part but they have played with this non-stop.  I thought Graham was going to cry and go hug the lady who sold it to him!  Ha!
The toy bin also came with a Star Wars Millennium Falcon electronic toy.
Retail on that...$79.00!!!
WHAT?!  Not us!  It was free!

I love that my boys scored some amazing deals this weekend!  They are getting really good at this.
Although...shhhh...I'm sort of looking forward to not taking them along next weekend.  As good as they are it's a bit difficult teaching them they DON'T need to take something home from each stop!

Thrifty Treasures Monday!

I was ready set ready to go out.
Ads in my pocket, comfy outfit, set to go with my ones and quarters.
But just as I grabbed my keys two little boys asked excitedly:
"Are you going to yard sales?"
Um, er, maybe...ok - YES.

I've never seen flip flops fly onto feet so fast!
It was a good day to take them - there were hardly any and mostly junk.
They are thrilled with the few new toys that they got and I did manage to find some brand new Gap shirts in Graham's size.
9 pieces of clothing for him (some with tags!) for $17.00
Not bad!

I did find a few things for the house at the last sale that I'm pretty excited about...
Large wire basket - $3.00
Scroll star - $2.00
Large black distressed mirror - $20.00
This looks a lot like the one I've admired at Lowe's a few times for $75.00!  Sweet!
Now to decided where to put everything!

Thrifty Treasures Monday!

Good morning friends!
I've been waiting all year to join in on this party again! Have you been over to Rhoda's place - Southern Hospitality? It's one of my favorite blogs!

I was able to go to a large community yard sale Saturday over at Daybreak in South Jordan.  My friends, Kari, Desiree and Natalie joined in the crazy "leaving at 6:45 a.m." fun and we scored some great finds!
New in Package Baking racks - $1.00
I've been wanting some of these forever so I was excited to find this!
 Wooden Christmas Tree $1.00
Matches my holiday decor perfectly!

Christmas Dress for LuLu - $1.00
This one is a bit iffy - I LOVE the skirt but we were all torn on the fur sleeves.  I'll have to see if it stays as is, gets resewn or becomes a play dress!
Nightstand - $10.00
 All ready for painting!
Not sure when that will happen or what color yet but this will be a fun project!

If you had any great finds this weekend be sure to post and join in the fun at Rhoda's!

Thrifty FInds Monday!

Joining in on Rhoda's party again this week...was planning on going alone but before the words "garage sa..."could even escape my still waking up lips, Greg was dressed and in the car waiting to go along. Then as I was pulling out of the garage Graham came running out looking ready to go as well.

I armed them with quarters and the rules:
1. Do NOT ask mom loudly if you can have something. Mom does not want to have to explain what junk is in front of the "junks owner."
2. Do NOT beg, whine or cry if mom says no.
3. Treat it like a treasure hunt, we may fund something, we may not, but we still have fun and get a doughnut afterwards.

Deals of the day...

Smocked bubble outfit - .50 cents

Old Navy Linen Dress - FREE!! It pays to find out that the garage sale you show up at is related to a good friend of yours! Thanks Kari!
Carters khaki skirt and shirt - $1.00 each
Carters sundress (love the colors) $1.00
Eeek!! Super cute cuffed capris from Children's Place - $1.00!
Brand new plates - $1.00 (this woman was selling off inventory from a store, most of her things were way overpriced but I thought these were perfect little gift plates for the price especially being brand new!)
Graham's find: Darth Vader talking mask - $4.00 (they are selling on ebay for $25-30) and Power Ranger gun, .50 cents and a Dr. Suess book for free.
Find of the day - Greg's Spiderman costume for $1.00. He LOVES Spiderman and has worn this from the minute he woke up to the minute he goes to bed. He would not stop grinning after he found this! He also got a Blue Thunder monster truck for .25 cents.

Total spent - under $15.00
Not a bad day, especially with two little shoppers tagging along!

Thanks for stopping by!
