Back to School Traditions

While my boys started school a few weeks ago, Lauren is about to go to preschool for the first time on Monday!  What a big day, she is SO excited to say the least.
We have a few traditions around here to get ready for the new school year!
I take my boys out on individual dates before school starts.  Although part of the date is painful for them since they have to go shopping.
We pick out a new outfit and shoes for their first day of school, backpacks, etc.
The boys can pick anywhere they want to go and eat for lunch...
I try to steer the conversation around what new things they might be facing that upcoming school year.  Friends, teachers, buying lunch for the first time in the cafeteria!
And I don't think I can ever tell them enough how smart and handsome they are, how proud Dan and I are of them, and most of all, how we expect great things from them!
Somehow these dates include a new toy as well.

The night before school starts we get all their clothes and things ready to go.  Dan gives them a Father's Blessing for the new school year.  Mom gets one also since it always feels like such a busy and crazy time, I will take all the prayers I can get in raising these three little ones.

A nice hot breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage and oj start the year as well as taking the mandatory picture on the porch before heading off to school....

And sometime we sneak in a picture with the teacher if there is time and I am not a teary eyed blurry mess by then.
It can be hard knowing that someone else has your child for 8 hours a day!  I try to remind my boys every day to be kind, be a good friend and good example.
And to keep their Pokemon cards put away until lunchtime!

What traditions do you have for the new school year with your children?

Linking up to Kelly's Korner!

Darling boys... you are such a good mama. I always remember the special times my mom took just me (out of six kids) shopping and to lunch. Good memories for your children.
