My Latest Obsession

My food storage room, or the location of my hot date with Dan Friday night 2 weeks ago.
He put together another CostCo shelf so now I have 5 in there and now they all seem empty!
Yikes, I have nothing as far as toiletries for food storage. We will have lots of soup but rotting teeth if something terrible was to happen where we needed to live on this!
So I've been setting aside $25 a week along with our regular grocery money to add to our food storage. I think it's sort of fun and I like having my own little "store" downstairs for when I really don't want to haul 3 kids to the store (especially in the winter, in the snow!) I'm proud to say I rarely pay $1 for anything that is on these shelves. I can't help it, I like a deal!

Anyone else completely lame like me and think that this is fun? Or do you think I'm crazy for just doing it at all?!

I'm sorry. I can't stay here any longer. Insane jealousy is about to engulf me.

Wow, you could be my new best friend! I must admit that my basement pantry looks very similar. My rule of thumb is to have at least two of everything when it comes to cleaning supplies, baggies (in all sizes) and paper products. I like to have a greater number of the staples we use on a weekly and seasonal basis. If the items we use are on sale, I buy more. As soon as I use something, it is replaced on my next shopping trip. I don’t like to let our supply dwindle too low. This also helps with my hungry teenagers and their friends ~ I always have plenty on hand! I’ve already come to grips that I’m anal, but when you’re working and running children around, who has time for last minute shopping trips to make dinner?

OH.
MY.
GOODNESS.

I love you.

Seriously, this totally tugs at my heart - I absolutely ADORE organizing stuff like this!

In Texas, though, basements are rare. My pantry is about the size of one of those carts, so there's not much stocking up that goes on. Of course, we don't have to deal with snow in the wintertime either, so I guess it all works out.

Guilt is what I am feeling...my poor family is going to have to come over to your and Heidi's houses when the world comes to a end. I am seriously so impressed!

Holy schnikies!!! That IS a grocery store! I love love love all things organizational, so you know I'm madly in love with that. I'm working on trying to stock my house, too, but it's not anything near yours. I like the idea of $25.00 set aside for it. I'll work on that. I think it looks fabulous!!

Okay I want to be your neighbor too. I have all the chocolate and you have everything else, want to trade?
That is a good motivator and I like the $25 a week goal. Something to think about and not a bad date idea either......

WOW! I am so jealous. Those shelves and just beautiful. I wish I had a place in my house to have something like that. Someday I will!

I found your blog when I was doing some food storage research. I have a website dedicated to food storage and emergency preparedness - check us out when you get the chance! I hope it can help you.

You are giving me major guilt!! My shelves are almost empty. Ugh!! Thanks for the kick in the pants to get going on my storage. I especially like your idea of being stocked up for the snowy months. KInd of like the ant gathering food for the winter. I must be the grasshopper!

Wow, that is inspiring! We have been contemplating getting a freezer to keep in our garage so we could do more shopping at Costco and Sams, but I hadn't considered adding storage for extra pantry items. You are so super organized!

Awesome! Especially living in an area that could go with out power due to hurricanes. I was curious, do you have a rotation system, for your dates on food? How did you get started?
