Date with Graham

What? A date with mom? No way!

You say you're buying me school clothes and taking me out to lunch anywhere I want to go? Just you and me? Well, maybe...
Ok, well maybe this wasn't so bad after all spending the day with you mom!
I even get to play with your camera and you'll still buy me chocolate milk after I've had 3 glasses of Sprite?
And you'll buy me Legos, throw as many pennies as you have into the fountain and let me choose the music in the car? We should do this every Saturday!

(Yes, after mommy gets her teeth whitened (!!!!!) and looks into Botox. I think my sun worshiping days are catching up to me.)

I've been looking forward to this for weeks. Graham was not, but I think he ended up liking being with his mom when she was not being so "mommy-ish" and more silly. And how often do I get to spend one on one time with him anymore?

We got him all outfitted for school with new pants, shorts, shirts, undies, shoes, etc. (whew!) and then I took him to lunch, my treat - his choice. I might make this a yearly tradition with each of my kids. It was SO worth it and a great memory for me with Graham.

One-on-one time with each of our kids is of PRIMO importance to me. It's such a TREAT to see who they are when there's no attention competition & sibling antics. The Engineer is also pretty good about taking the Munchkins on dates -- even "forcing" our teenager to go with him - last time she was in tears, no less! They both came back smiling and I'm beyond grateful he pushes through "the pain" of forcing her to go out with him. I could be wrong, but I think our kids (and yours!) will remember and value these dates. You're the SMART one, too --> Combining Graham's date with school clothes shopping!!

Those are some cute pictures. I can't believe how big he's gotten! And you look smokin' hot! No improvements needed.

I like the tradition of the school shopping date. I just might have to borrow that idea.

Love your new tradition. As a tradition consultant, a great idea would be too make sure you take the "same" picture every year, and just create one little scrapbook of that "back to school" memory/tradition. No work, no frills but it will be so neat to pull out every year and see how he's changed from year to year. I did this with my boys and there sports pictures and bday (the picture of them in front of the cake) and it has been such a fun thing to see how they've changed.
So glad you had that special sweet date with your little man.
I came to I tell you that I laughed out loud at your comment about the disinfectant at the Nester's.:)

Congrats on being featured on SITS. I have another idea for you - a friend of mine with 8 (yes, EIGHT) kids gave me this one and I love it. Take a photo of your kids on their first day of school holding a sign that says, "Graham's First Day of First Grade and the date" and take one the last day of school. Save them over the years and you'll have LOTS of "growing" photos to embarass him with at his high school graduation party :-)

I love dates with kids. I did this once with Cooper and we loved it. I don't know why I haven't kept it up. I think it is great for the kids to get one on one time. Looks like fun.

Who are you kidding! You look fabulous! I think the mom/son date is an excellent tradition...one that should be kept up (and copied by all). When I was growing up we had "Spoil Keysha Day" one day a year (well, okay, every day) but on this one day my Dad and I would go and do whatever I wanted...just the two of us...all day long. Some of my fondest memories were the one-on-one time with my parents.

You're an awesome mom!
