Was it really Thanksgiving?

We had an unusual Thanksgiving this year. No yummy turkey cooking in the oven. No football on the tv. No luscious, heavenly naps. We did have a match made in heaven on our countertop. Dan's is the one with the clown. Duh. I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. He makes funky concoctions that in my hometown we called "Suicides." I hate clowns too. So there is a double strike on that. Look at how my straw is leaning in to kiss Dan's despite the 2 strikes - awwwww.
We did travel to meet my mom and dad and my dad's sister for dinner. At a restaurant. On Thanksgiving. It did not feel RIGHT. Can you take a guess as to where we ate? I've only told TWO souls. I was horrified and held my tongue.
I took 50 pictures of the kids outside - this was the BEST ONE. I think Christmas card pictures this year might need some re-planning. Apparently asking all three to look at the camera is just too much.

Look at this lovely table setting. Does it get any better than this? An antique oil-lantern? Sugar packets? S&P? Table runners and fine china be damned. We've got wiped down wood and two tables pushed together. "Jealous??" (ok, everytime I say that now I think of that one leg girl skit on SNL - anyone know what I am talking about?)
Even LuLu was sulky. She is having an eye issue and was not feeling the love at The Cracker Barrel. BUT - not a soul had to do dishes and there were no seconds, so it was built in portion control. Sweet.

Truth be told my cute mom just had knee surgery and did not want to be standing in the kitchen all day. My dad is getting ready to have surgery shortly. I offered to cook but they just wanted to make it easy on everyone and go out. It wasn't that bad - it just didn't feel very, Thanksgiving-ish. Waaah. But we all lived and still had a really nice day as a family.

I hope you all did as well!

At least the Cracker Barrell food isn't bad...but your pics crack me up. Here's an idea for next year if you {they} don't want to cook... It's become our tradition when we have Thanksgiving by our lonesomeselves with no family around {because I hate cooking for 6 little kids who pick at their food and don't appreciate} ..Mimi's Cafe does a Thanksgiving meal (THE BEST) and it's SO YUMMY! We bring it home Wed. night and it takes 1 hour tops to prepare then you eat on your china and with your beautiful table and walaaa! The benefits of Thanksgiving without all the mess...and it's surprisingly inexpensive! Sorry for the epistle!

Every year my dad begs my mom to have Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant. His other idea is to order a 5' turkey sub from Subway! I guess he hates to hear all the complaints about the work! Glad you were able to spend the day with family. Your blog looks so festive!! Love it!!

Sounds like a good Thanksgiving to me!! Our first Thanksgiving in Arizona we let Boston Market do the cooking, some years it just works better. Next year you will appreciate your home cooked dinner so much more!! The pic of your kids is cute, good luck getting a shot with all 3 of them looking at the camera. Claire is 18 months and we probably have 3 pictures of all of them together looking decent.

Sounds like the perfect meal to me. You just get to concentrate on your family. Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite restaurants!

I guess being with family is what matters. I know what you mean though. I thawed out a pumpkin roll gor my lunch contribution. That felt wierd!

Just being together was probably great, but I know how it can feel just not like a "real holiday." Your kids are precious and maybe Christmas will be perfect.

It sounds great to me, but I know what you mean. I always hated when my extended family would have Thanksgiving in a church, it just didn't have that homey feeling.

Love all the pics...kids say it all:)

The rocking chairs are a dead giveaway to the Cracker Barrel. Why is it so hard to get boys to look at the camera for two seconds?

My family once had to eat at Waffle House for Christmas dinner (hang my head in shame)...if it makes you feel any better...

Awwww. I do understand what you are talking about. We did that once and I was a bit sad. Thankful but with some regret. You get so caught up in all that family tradition that you long for it year after year. Your family was together...and you made it wonderful. Just think how extra special you can make it next year. Glad all was well and just think... no leftovers, smile. Take care~
