Imperfectly Beautiful

So, The Nester is hosting "Imperfectly Beautiful" today where I am supposed to show a room as it really is. Piece of cake. Could this have been a busier weekend? No. Did I clean at all really this weekend? Only the rooms that I don't really care to show you. A clean toilet is not really photo worthy this morning...but these are:

The toy loft. It drives me so crazy to see my 5 and 3 year olds dump toys to find one thing and then walk away like "What mess?" See how it oozes like a slow parasite into the hallway. There have been days I can't even walk up the stairs because the hallway floor is covered in the newest GeoTrax architecture that I dare not disturb.
Just so you can see the main culprit at work this morning and the loads of Thomas Trains and Hot Wheels on the floor.
This is a constant aggravation. See the cute little stair basket? I'm the only one who gets what this is for and how it is used. Other things get piled AROUND it that need to go up to the kids rooms.
This is just to embarrass my husband a little. His dresser as of this morning. Just a little bib, some baby lotion and wipes, and if you look really close, a Cottage Living magazine. Ok, that is mine that I left there and forgot to pick up. The post it on my wall is not my favorite place to put post its though. This dresser needs an organizer valet thingiemabob and a picture or something above it. Sort of last on the decorating list right now.
The lovely corner of the Master. Shoes, bouncers, the 800 bed pillows (hey, I just finished getting the kids breakfast, I haven't made the bed yet) the 8 yards of decorator fabric I got a garage sale for $10. This corner is on chair alert. I've been looking at garage sales for one I can re-paint and upholster. So it's just dead (way dead) space.

I think I'll try to post some after pictures of at least my room today!!! As for the toy loft? Eh, it can stay messy. I clean it up a couple times a week and re-bin everything and last week Graham offered to help and did most of it himself! But I have three cute kids who make messes like kids do. How sad would I be if I had to walk upstairs everyday wishing those three bedrooms had children in them? Dan and I joke that we've filled the rooms and now we are done having kids! But really, my heart is full of gratitude that each of those rooms holds one of our sweet little ones and all of their messes!

Now that is a REAL house! Can I tell you how much I love and adore you for showing that dresser?

You my dear, are my hero! I think everyone else cleaned up before they took their photo--you know like how people clean before the maid comes!

Thanks so much!

Our stairs ALWAYS have at least two piles - one waiting for the journey down, and one waiting for the trek up. Funny ~ I walk by them 10s of times a day and LEAVE them right there!!

Now thats a house that has kids! Welcome to my world... I think Madison takes pride in her Barbies laid out across the house. She like to show off how many she has... oh if we only had a button that we could push and it would all find its way back to the playroom! We would be rich indeed! Thanks for sharing, Susie H

You aren't perfect? Whew! JK. :) I'm glad I'm not the only one with a messy house.

I love it. I got a big laugh out of the basket on the stairs that no one uses but you (I've got the same phenomenon in my house--why is this so difficult to grasp, folks??).

When I asked my daughter to clean up her toys yesterday, she asked, "Why? I'll just get them all back out anyway." That sums up life with children right there. -Julia :-)

I've thought about getting one of those stair baskets but haven't because I KNOW that I'll be the only one who uses it...especially since I'm the only one who actually brings up the stuff that is piled on the stairs!

Kris, tassel making is not hard at all. All you need is tons of ribbon, fringe, a cute topper, and loads of creativity. Im sure you could do it too! Smiles, Susie

I loved that you showed your home the way it's really used. My friend and I were talking on the phone the other day saying the saye thing, "Why are trying to make it appear as if our homes aren't lived in and there aren't kids who live here?" Someday we'll be sad when there aren't toys and little clothes and shoes around!

I'm back - Just have to say that your blog was one of my absolute favorites today.

Thanks for peeking in on my blog, as well! Today was so stinking fun!!! Who knew looking at other people's imperfections - and airing our own - could be so energizing! You wouldn't believe how many unphotographed piles have disappeared today.

Will be peeking in again!

The joys of a two-story home. I always have piles at the top and bottom of the stairs. (I like the basket idea, but I'm afraid I would be the only one who utilized it.)

Great post. Just goes to show you are human!

Oh my goodness! I think you could have taken all those very same pictures at my house! I have the very same stair basket with the very same problem! (I think it's kind of like how I'm the only one who knows what the laundry basket is actually for!) I also have a matching corner of the master bedroom filled with fabric and various other craft supplies. Not neatly organized or anything, just piled there!

I am so glad to see those pictures. It just reassures yourself that there are other people out there that don't have a perfect home all the time. But I am sure it only looks that way once in a while. Love it!

I just found your blog through Nester's. I'm so glad, it's great! I love your oh-so-real pictures. I think anyone with kids can relate to the creepy toy mess. Some days I swear I'm going to throw away every little bit of plastic junk that I find.

I love your REAL pictures. I have to admit I made sure things wern't too dirty before I took pictures. How fun to have a play loft, and I love the basket on your stairs. I think everyhouse has somewhere things get piled on, ours is the piano, probobly not so good for the sound :)
